The death of a 51-year-old woman on Bribie Island, north of Brisbane, is now being investigated as a murder case by the police.
Law enforcement officials were called to a house in Bongaree for a welfare check at just before 9pm on Thursday, where they discovered the woman’s body inside.
According to Detective Inspector Ben Fadian, there were reports of a disturbance at the Melia Street residence on Wednesday night around 11pm. The police had previously been called to the same address a week before.
Detective Inspector Fadian noted that the first responders who arrived on the scene attempted to provide assistance, but the woman was already deceased.
The investigation is in its early stages, and at this point, there are no definite suspects, according to Detective Inspector Fadian, who added that the woman was believed to be the sole occupant of the house.
“Our scientific division has conducted an examination of the premises, we have conducted door-to-door inquiries in the area, taken witness statements, and are speaking with local residents who may have information regarding the incident,” Detective Inspector Fadian stated.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the island and requesting anyone with information or dashcam footage from between 6pm and midnight on Wednesday to contact them.
