Bribie Island Nature Festival Set to Celebrate Nature, Culture, and Creativity

Get ready for an incredible weekend of nature, art, and culture as the Bribie Island Nature Festival returns from Friday, 18th October to Sunday, 20th October 2024. With over 30 activities planned across the island, this year’s festival is packed with something for everyone, from families with young children to nature lovers and art enthusiasts.

Festival producer Libby Anstus highlights the wide range of activities, including bird walks, art workshops, free science talks, and even a fashion parade inspired by the beauty of Bribie Island. “It’s a beautiful way to celebrate our gorgeous island,” she says, encouraging locals and visitors alike to attend the various low-cost and free events.

The three-day festival promises a mix of cultural experiences, including the Yarun Cultural Tour, where participants will be guided to significant Aboriginal sites by young tour guides from the Pumicestone Indigenous Education and Employment Council (PIEEC), showcasing traditional dance and stories.

For those interested in Bribie’s vibrant wildlife, the Microbat Survey offers a thrilling nighttime experience with ecologist Dr Elizabeth Williams. Early risers can join Birds in Your Neighbourhood Walk with Professor Darryl Jones, who will share bird observation tips, or attend his talk on safely feeding native birds.

Creatives will enjoy hands-on workshops like the Treecreative Walkshop and Drawing with the Bush, while art lovers can explore an open studio trail featuring some of Bribie Island’s finest artists.

The festival officially opens with a unique fashion event, Canvas to Catwalk, where original designs inspired by Bribie Island will be showcased. The weekend concludes with Bribie Jazz, featuring emerging talents like Lily Dauod and the JMI Ensemble.
