Avondale Meats Hosts Fundraiser BBQ for Local Hero Cheryl in Her Battle Against Cancer

In an inspiring display of community spirit, Avondale Meats, a beloved local butcher shop on Bribie Island, is stepping up to support one of their own. Cheryl Bichel, a frequent shopper at Avondale Meats and a hardworking hairdresser, has bravely faced a series of health battles, culminating in a recent cancer diagnosis. Known for her resilience and independence, Cheryl’s story has touched the hearts of many in our community, prompting Avondale Meats to organise a fundraiser BBQ to contribute to her ongoing medical expenses.

Cheryl’s journey has been nothing short of challenging. After surviving a life-altering heart attack in 2022, which left her with permanent damage, Cheryl was then struck by the loss of her mother the following year, deepening her grief. Recently, she has been diagnosed with cancer, undergoing two surgeries in the past three months, with another scheduled for March, followed by radiation treatment. The financial strain from medical bills and limited work capacity has placed a significant burden on Cheryl and her family.

To support Cheryl in her fight, Avondale Meats is hosting a FREE sausage sizzle outside their shop at Shop 13, Bribie Harbour Shopping Village, 25 Sunderland Dr, Banksia Beach. The event will take place this Thursday and Friday, from 10am to 12pm. Attendees can enjoy delicious sausages while contributing to a great cause, with a donation bucket present for contributions. Avondale Meats is generously providing all the meats for the sausage sizzle, showcasing their commitment to supporting Cheryl through this difficult time.

Cheryl’s daughter has set up a GoFundMe page, aiming to raise funds to cover the estimated $20,000 needed for Cheryl’s upcoming surgery. The family’s heartfelt message highlights Cheryl’s fierce independence and the immense challenges she has faced, appealing to the community’s generosity to alleviate the financial stress and allow Cheryl to focus on her health and recovery.

For those unable to attend the BBQ, donations can be made through the GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/f/bm6fb-help-cheryl-conquer-cancer. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in Cheryl’s battle against cancer.

Avondale Meats’ initiative is a testament to the strong sense of community that defines Bribie Island. By supporting one another in times of need, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of those around us. Let’s come together this Thursday and Friday to show Cheryl and her family that they are not alone in this fight. Your generosity and support could provide the much-needed strength and comfort to a beloved member of our community during this challenging time.

Join us in helping Cheryl conquer cancer, one sausage at a time.
